You get your new D7200, play around with the autofocus and hear the camera beep when it confirms focus. That’s fine. Then, one day, you realise it’s not beeping any more. You don’t think you changed any of the settings, and when you go looking for ways to fix it there don’t appear to be any. Is it broken?
No, it’s not broken, but the solutions aren’t obvious. First, you need to make sure the beep is switched on, and youi do this via the Custom Setting menu, option d1. You need to pick a volume level (not Off, obviously).
But what if your D7200 still isn’t beeping? The second thing you need to check is that it’s not set to continuous AF mode (AF-C). It will only sound the beep for focus confirmation if you’ve got the autofocus mode set to single-shot (AF-S) – or if you’re using AF-A mode and the camera detects no movement.
