12 Viewfinder: Look through this (obviously) to compose the image and try not to lose the rubber eyepiece cup that slots in over the eyepiece.
13 Diopter adjustment: Turn this little dial to bring the viewfinder into sharp focus – most users need to adjust it to suit their eyesight.
14 AE-L/AF-L button: Press and hold this to lock both the focus and the exposure. You can also configure this button to lock just one or the other.
15 Main command dial: Used for a range of different adjustments depending on the camera’s operating mode or which button you’re pressing as you turn it.
16 Multi selector lock lever: Turn this to the L position to avoid accidentally pressing the multi selector direction keys and shifting the active focus point while you’re handling the camera.
17 Multi selector: Used for moving the focus point around the frame, navigating menus and on-screen options and more. The central OK button is used to confirm actions.
18 Lv (live view) button: Press this to enter live view mode and again to leave it. Use the lever around the outside to switch between video and still photography controls.
19 Info button: This displays full shooting information on the rear LCD screen – useful when the top panel display is not convenient or too hard to see clearly.
20 Rear LCD (monitor): This displays menus, shooting information, saved photos and the scene you’re photographing when the camera is set to live view mode.
21 ‘i’ button: This button offers quick access to commonly-used menu options.
22 ISO button: Press and hold this then turn the main command dial to change the ISO setting and the sub command dial to switch Auto ISO mode on and off. In playback mode, it zooms out.
23 Qual (quality) button: Press and hold this then turn the main command dial to set the image quality and the sub command dial to set the image size. In playback mode it zooms in.
24 WB (white balance) button: Press and hold this then turn the main command dial to change the white balance setting and the front dial to make small adjustments. In playback mode this locks images to prevent accidental deletion.
25 Menu button: Press this to open the camera menus and then use the multi selector keys and the OK button to navigate and and select different options.
26 Playback: Press this to see images saved on the memory card. To leave playback mode, simply half-press the shutter release.
27 Release mode dial and lock: The release mode dial is used for swapping between single shot, continuous shooting and self-timer modes, but you need to press and hold this button before you can turn it.
28 Delete button: Use this in playback mode to delete photos you don’t want – you press the button again to confirm you want to delete.
