See the key below this annotation for more information about each control or feature.
Auto/Manual focus switch: This has the same function as the AF/M lever on the body (38). If either is set to the M position, the camera switches to manual focus.
Bracket (BKT) button: Press and hold this button to set up auto-exposure and flash bracketing (if you’re using flash) – turn the main command dial to adjust the steps and the sub-command dial to change the number of shots.
Flash mode: You press this button and turn the main command dial to change the flash mode and the sub-command dial to apply flash compensation. The button also pops up the flash.
Connector covers: You peel back these rubber covers to get access to the microphone, USB, HDMI, headphone and accessory port sockets.
Focus mode selector: This is two controls in one. Around the outside is an AF/MF switch and in the middle is the mode selector. Press and hold this then turn the main command dial to swap between continuous and single-shot autofocus, and the sub-command dial to change the focus point mode.
VR switch: Nikon lenses with VR (Vibration Reduction) systems have a switch to turn them off for tripod use (it’s not essential but it can prevent ‘feedback’ vibration).
