This isn’t quite as instant as it first appears, though. First, you have to switch the D7200 to press the live view button [18] on the back of the camera to enter live view mode, and then switch the lever around the button to movie mode. The screen will display the current movie settings, but you can change these by pressing the menu button [25]. You’ll also see the audio levels on the left of the screen.
Half-pressing the shutter button will focus the lens, and you can use the multi selector [17] on the back of the camera to move the focus point – press OK at any point to move it back to the centre.
Note that focusing will be slower in live view mode. Most videographers use manual focus or, in this instance, they would focus once before filming rather than try to keep refocusing all the way through.
If you’re not used to shooting video with the D7200 it’s very easy to lose track of whether it’s recording or paused – look for a red dot and a ‘Rec’ alert in the top left corner of the screen.
